Innovative solutions from first-hand experience

ShipCore (formerly Smart-Marine) was founded by Thorbjørn Thade Petersen, a former Chief Engineer with 20+ years of experience working on some of the world's largest container ships, where he identified key challenges that impact engine performance, maintenance efficiency, and sustainability.

A critical issue was the accumulation of sludge in the under-piston space and scavenge air drain system – a common problem across all 2-stroke marine engines. This buildup compromises the accuracy of scrape down sampling, affecting engine condition monitoring and performance optimization.

To solve this, he developed the Automatic Drain Cleaning System (ADCS), which immediately improved both the sample quality and overall engine conditions.

In testing the ADCS, Thorbjørn found that a cleaner engine also means that the used marine lube oil collected from the engine is significantly cleaner. This led to the possibility of turning used marine lube oil into value rather than waste, which was accomplished through the development of ShipCore’s patented Lube Oil Reuse System (LRS) that recovers and reuses marine lube-oil.

Today, ShipCore delivers solutions that create measurable value for shipowners worldwide. By combining innovation, experience, and a deep understanding of engine operations, we help our customers reduce OPEX, minimize CO₂ emissions, and improve operational efficiency.

Developing innovative solutions for maritime engines

ShipCore is built around personnel who have backgrounds in marine engineering, lubrication technology, and the shipping industry. In ShipCore we come together to form an innovative group with a single purpose: To revolutionize the maritime industry.

To do this, our engineers research and develop solutions to issues that shipping companies face in their daily operations. We build the solutions in our factory and test them on the ships of our collaboration partners.

To get them out to as wide an audience as possible, helping the entire shipping industry towards more sustainable and cost-efficient solutions, we engage with shipping companies around the world all year round.

We drive maritime innovation with deep technical expertise to create a greener, smarter, and more sustainable industry.
