Automated drain cleaning that lowers costs, reduces wear, and improves safety

Reduce component wear, extend maintenance intervals, and save hundreds of work hours with ShipCore’s Automatic Drain Cleaning System (ADCS) for 2-stroke engines. Designed for continuous scavenge air drain cleaning, the ADCS keeps the engine free from sludge and excess oil, ensuring optimal performance with minimal crew intervention.
  • Facilitates optimized cylinder oil feed rate
  • Lower maintenance costs
  • Less cleaning downtime
  • Faster scrape down sampling
  • Improved crew safety and working conditions
  • Reduced risk of scavenge air fires
  • Less fouling in turbochargers & exhaust gas boilers
  • Seamless integration and installation

What makes ADCS unique?

Unlike conventional setups, ADCS is not a single unit – it is a complete solution combining three automated systems:
  • Individual Drain Cleaner (IDC) – Mounted on each cylinder unit, continuously removing sludge and oil from under-piston space. Keeping drain lines clean and ensuring fast and correct Scrape Down Sampling.
  • Common Drain Cleaner (CDC) – Auger screw mounted in common drain line, effectively moving hard sludge and oil from each individual cylinder to the scavenge air drain tank.
  • Stuffing Box Cleaner (SBC) – Cleaning the stuffing box drain pipe, and pumping the collected oil to be re-cycled.
Together, these solutions provide a fully automated and integrated drain cleaning system.

Before and after ADCS

Excessive sludge accumulation and blocked scavenge drain pipes under the piston space are common issues in two-stroke main engines. Without continuous cleaning, sludge builds up over time, leading to increased maintenance, higher operational risks, and potential engine damage.

With the Automatic Drain Cleaning System (ADCS), these challenges are eliminated. The system continuously cleans the drainpipes, preventing sludge deposits and ensuring a free flow of scavenge drains. This protects the stuffing box and improves scrape down analysis accuracy and sampling time, while reducing manual cleaning and extending component lifetime.

The results are clear: Cleaner piston spaces, unrestricted drain pipes, and optimized engine performance – delivering both operational reliability and long-term cost savings.

Lube Oil Reuse System (LRS)

ShipCore’s Lube Oil Reuse System (LRS) revolutionizes the handling and lifetime of lubrication oil for maritime 2-stroke engines.

Working together with the ADCS and SCU, the LRS reuses lubrication oil to be reintroduced into the engine. This drastically lowers the total cost of lubrication oil used to operate the engine and lowers emissions from fossil fuels by reusing rather than paying to dispose of excess oil.

With ShipCore’s LRS, improved sustainability also means an improved ship economy.

Sludge Collecting Unit (SCU)

ShipCore’s Sludge Collecting Unit (SCU) removes the need for manual cleaning of scavenge air drain tanks and is central to facilitating the repurpose of oil drained from the engine to be reintroduced as reuse cylinder lubrication oil in our Lube Oil Reuse System (LRS).

With the SCU, engine crews save a significant amount of man hours on cleaning duties, improving working conditions by reducing the exposure to hazardous substances.

Automatic Drain Cleaning System (ADCS)

ShipCore’s Automatic Drain Cleaning System (ADCS) reduces sludge accumulation in 2-stroke engines through continuous cleaning of scavenge air drains.

The solution is highly durable and reduces the total amount of cylinder lubrication oil needed as well as the total fuel consumption of the ship.

Add to this that it improves the working conditions and work safety of the engine crew significantly, while lowering their man-hours spent on cleaning duties.
